Do you think this is a good idea for people running for Congress?

Question by Hello: Do you think this is a good idea for people running for Congress?
Do you think it would be a good idea to require people running for congress to take a 500 question test with questions concerning economics, law, science, U.S. history, world history, and world cultures/religions and score atleast 90%? I am tired of seeing bloody bafoons going to Washington.

absolutely, but good luck trying to find someone to pass

  2. END THE FED says:

I think its a good idea to have the voters be more informed about who they vote for in the elections.

  3. prekinpdx says:

No. If you don’t like it…run for office. Voters make these decisions. If we don’t like the quality of candidates, we can only blame ourselves. Requiring a certain score on a test is stupid.

I don’t think Hillary Clinton would pas it.
She is of the opinion countries should lend money to other countries so they can then sell them goods to get their own money back.
She thinks China is going to keep doing that for us, and that we should do it for Pakistan, lend Pakistan 2 billion and sell them 2 Billion worth of arms
Where is Pakistan going to get the money from to repay us?
Where are we going to get the money to repay China now that we have killed manufacturing?
Fort Knox is empty, and if we print any more money a loaf of bread will be $ 15 bucks.

I would not call it a test, per se. Some of the areas you note are testable with factual responses expected, some are not.

That said, yeah, a common set of questions would be a good idea. The problem comes with implementation wherein the candidates will delegate the responses to their minions and the polling people.

Now, if you could lock them in a room for a day with access only to a computer (no email, etc.) then I would like to see that.

  6. DON says:

Perhaps, but actually “we the people” vote them into office so maybe all voters should be required to pass a test before being allowed to vote? All politicians are corrupt and “we the people” need to make better choices and actually understand the issues instead of just voting for another corrupt politician because of political party. It is not about political party, it is much bigger and unless something changes we are all screwed.

  7. Smells like New Screen Names says:

    Most likely not

Sarah Plain for instance would invent words in the essay section.

So is a bafoon, half baboon, half buffoon?

  8. clark says:

I’m in favor of literacy tests for voters.
The voters are the dummy’s that put incompetent people in office…….

  9. tarhousecafe2007 says:

I think it would be a better idea for the voters to participate in this over members of congress. We The People keep electing these morons that are in the Congress. Also I think you’d have to pass a Constitutional Amendment for either one to have to take such a test since the Constitution itself does not require this and there is no rational basis for it.

yea, probably, but maybe like 80 instead of 90.
