How can congress vote for a bill THEY DID NOT READ?

Question by gatorw: How can congress vote for a bill THEY DID NOT READ?
Both sides, those who voted for the stimulus bill and those who voted against it, did not have time to read the 1100 pages of the bill. Yet they voted for it or against? is this really happening or is it some kind of joke? Can you believe our congress would vote for or against a bill THEY DID NOT READ?

Given that Reps were given no time to read it, they were correct to vote against it. It’s the only logical choice when you have NO IDEA what is in it. The Dems on the other hand for the most part, do not care. Except for the 11 that stood up for our country by voting against it.

This is why Congress needs to lose their respective next elections so we can get a decent representative who will act for the people instead of for themselves.

I don’t know why anybody would vote for anything they were not absolutely sure of.

The President pushed for it took the week end off and is not signing till Tuesday and not in Washington but Denver. To me he is two face and so are the Democrats.

  4. Bad Squirrel says:

No surprise here. I doubt they read anything they vote on.

Congress knows what’s in the bill, because they’re the ones who put it there.

I don’t know what hole you’ve been in…. but politicians from both sides never read 1000+ page bills…… just like they didn’t read the patriot act

The Libs rushed it through saying it had to be done, and now the President won’t sign it until tomorrow. Doesn’t seem quite right to me.

But hey, they are Libs. Nobody ever said they were smart.

Obama said push it through. It is deliberately written in legal jargon so that it would take hours and hours to read through a few pages. This was all done so they could push it through in a matter of a few hours, instead of the 48 hrs for the American people to sound off and comment on it like Obama promised while on his run for office.

If you believe they did not know what was in the bill I have a lovely bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell you.

Congress persons and Senators have staff members who track all legislation, that is what they are paid to do. The elected representative is kept informed of the content and all changes on a 24/7 basis.

So, no, I do not believe they did not know what was in the bill.

Because Mother Pelosi told them to shut up and vote for it and do not question her!

It was a thousand pages long and nobody that was actually for it wanted it read. Obama created this sense of urgency to sign it, get it pushed through…yet he had the weekend, he had today and he plans to sign it on Tuesday. But geez, don’t give anybody any time to read it. Those 3 Republicans that voted for it, under pressure no doubt, probably would have not signed it.

so brainiac…..if you go to buy a car and the salesman shoves a contract in your face and says sign it…..sign it now…no time to read it just sign it…would you do it? It may be a good contract but you don’t know UNLESS YOU READ IT. The only reasonable response would be to decline it so you don’t risk getting screwed. ( not reading it is gambling with our money ) If the salesman believes in what he is selling he will give you the time to read it because he has nothing to hide…but if he tries to pressure you…chances are there are some things in the contract that are not in your best interest but will benefit him and he hopes you sign it without seeing it.

Get ready for the magic of Obama… there will be a whole lot of slight of hand with him in charge.

It is disgusting the way he scared people into voting.. and now nothing will even get done for 2 years.

Can’t wait to see how this plan helps me…Not!

  17. Shadow Knight says:

None of them read bills, they have aids for that.

    Simple fact.

  18. TomT says:

I would prefer anyone who didn’t read the bill vote against it. Once it’s passed it’s too late.
